Mid-century sterling silver leaf earrings set with colorful art glass, made in Taxco, Mexico. Cat's eye gems of red and yellow glass nestle at the heart of graceful silver leaves. The highly polished, concave leaves reflect the colors of the vibrant glass. These fun earrings are screw-backs, so you can wear them whether or not your ears are pierced. The back of one leaf is marked "Hecho en Mexico Taxco." Circa 1950.

The city of Taxco is an important center for Mexican silver jewelry design. During the 1940s, Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. The main attraction for designers and studio jewelers was the abundance of locally mined materials like silver and semi-precious gems.
